I want to be a formula one driver
I want to go fast in a car
Through the day and night
Race on a track
Faster than Daniel Riccardo
Go hypersonic
Blast
Like a rocket
I want to rush like the wind
On a motorbike
Tilting very low
Knee almost touching the ground
Wearing a white helmet
Then rearing up like an angry horse
Roar
Like a lion
I want to go as fast as the speed of light
In a rocket
Shooting up high
Soaring in the sky
Rushing past the solar system
Boom
Like the Big Bang
What if you could
Run faster than the speed of sound?
You could make a lot of money off that

This poem is Zachary’s response to Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem ‘The Boy’. The idea for the poem came from my reading of the book “Rose, Where Did You Get That Red?” by Kenneth Koch
